Create Newsletter Super Fans

How to build a real community around your content.

Hello to 1,127 newsletter creators!

This is Fatherpreneur, the newsletter about newsletters that's written by a dad with a mustache who's been creating content for 10 years.

This newsletter will take 90 seconds to read. Clock starts now.

It should come as no surprise to those reading that I work at beehiiv.

It’s the best job a person could ask for. But not only that, beehiiv is the best newsletter platform in the space, full stop. This week I tweeted 10 reasons you should choose beehiiv for your newsletter.

You can read that thread by clicking the tweet below.

Questions? Hit me up. I’m more than happy to help you make the best choice for your content vertical.

Build a community for your niche.

I am a people person. I’ve been a social butterfly my whole life. Now as a business builder and entrepreneur, it just so happens that building relationships, networking, and cheering on other people’s successes and achievements is coincidentally the key to unlocking personal and professional growth as well.

Here’s what I mean:

The best performing newsletters of any niche aren’t writing into a void. They are writing to a very specific group of people.

They are writing to their super fans, the ones who open every email, who respond to every poll, the ones who sit in the sauce of the content.

Every newsletter wants to have super fans, but most newsletter creators don’t know how to build a real community around their content.

It’s much easier to create content that makes super fans when you know what it’s like to be a super fan of someone else’s content.

The best creators reverse engineer super fandom and then build their strategy around it.

Here’s what you should do:

Become a Super Fan.

  • Identify 1-2 newsletters that you love; read every single issue they send.

  • Reply, click, answer polls — be their biggest fan.

  • Be a super fan.

  • Refer people, post about it on social media. Tell your friends. Praise the creators.

  • Go the extra mile.

Once you know what it takes to be a super fan, reverse engineer yourself.

Start from the goal of a group of people being obsessed with your content, and identify that audience segment early and often.

Those are your people.

Engage with Your Super Fans.

You’re writing to the ones who open everything. Sure it’s nice to have subscribers who don’t necessarily engage with everything, but that’s mostly a cherry on top. The people you care most about are the people waiting on the edge of their seats to read and engage with your content.

Once you identify who those super fans of your content are, reciprocate.

Engage with them. Send them 1:1 emails (“Thanks so much for engaging with my content.”)

Reply to their tweets.

Reply to their email replies.

Show them you care.

Do for them what you want the creators of your favorites to do for you— because now you know what it’s like.

Do this week after week, newsletter after newsletter, and you’ll build a community around your content — a community of super fans.
