Blog vs. Email: When To Use Each
Both serve a specific purpose, and both should be used.
Hey there, Fatherpreneurs —
In today’s newsletter we answer another question from one of the readers. 👇️
“When using beehiiv for my newsletter, how should I approach blogs vs. newsletters? When should I use one or the other?”
This is an excellent question.
Let’s dive in.
By the way, I’m currently implementing the strategies I write about in Fatherpreneur in two of my other newsletters: The Daily Fact — my daily email of random facts that will make you smarter and impress your wife — and Running, a personal journey about my recent transformation from couch potato to fitness influencer and aspiring marathon runner.
You can subscribe to both by clicking either link below.

beehiiv’s “Posts” are a two-for-one deal—they’re newsletters AND blogs. Same content, different functions. But before you start clicking the “publish” button, here’s what you need to know about playing to their strengths:
Email = Connection
When your goal is to connect with your existing subscribers, email is your best friend. It’s personal, direct, and lands right where people are already paying attention—their inbox.
But there’s a catch: clipping.
Gmail and friends have a word count + design limit. Too many words, photos, or design elements, and your masterpiece might get snipped. No worries, though—beehiiv’s editor will throw show a small warning before you cross that line. Keep it concise, engaging, and mobile-friendly.
I want to make Fatherpreneur free, so I often place 1-2 ads, and get paid on clicks to the ad. If this Roku ad is of any interest, please check it out!

Blog = Discovery
Now, if your goal is to attract traffic, generate leads, and get that sweet, sweet SEO love, the blog angle is where it’s at.
With blogs, there’s no “clipping”, so you can go wild with photos, videos, gifs, and all the bells and whistles. Think of it as a digital playground for creativity. The best part? Every blog post is another breadcrumb trail leading straight to your website.
How They Work Together
Here’s the magic: your email and blog don’t have to live separate lives. Your email can tease your blog post—a catchy intro, an excerpt, and a CTA that says, “Want more? Click here.” It’s like a one-two punch: your email nurtures your current audience, and your blog reels in new ones.
You can also splice a newsletter into separate blogs for easier reader sharing.
That’s exactly what my wife and I do with our local newsletter.
Here’s what our Friday sends on @beehiiv look like for our local newsletter.
3-5 blogs get published at 4:50am.
The newsletter send goes out at 5am and consists of these blogs as individual email sections, plus ancillary email stuff that’s not in a blog.
Each section has a… x.com/i/web/status/1…

We have 4-6 sections in every newsletter, and most of those sections become their own blog with a unique slug. We then share the URL to that blog in each section of the newsletter so that a reader can quickly share the link to a specific part of the newsletter.
Those blogs then have subscribe pop-ups incorporated so people they share the blog with will have the chance to become subscribers.
The blog also works to drive organic traffic with SEO.
So, whether you’re building relationships or building your reach, there’s a tool (and a strategy).
Use your newsletter and blog strategy cohesively to make the largest impact and grow the most effectively.
